 One of the disadvantages of home schooling is the cost. The cost for home school a child can be very expensive, and the parents are responsive for purchasing the curriculum that their kids need. “This can cost, on average, approximately $400 per child each year.”  This can’t be a good idea for parents that only have one income tax or one part time job. The kids need computers, tools for projects and many other things. Adversary, in public school children has this entire thing for free, and the parents just have to worry for their kids’ lunch.  Also, the parents have to have enough time to home school their children, and this can be more expensive if they are not working for being home schooling their children.

           

            Another disadvantage is limited social interaction. The parents that don’t want their children in public school have to be responsive enough for their children social development. Social interaction is learned through interacting with other people every day.   Home schooling can become the kids very shy. Every kid needs to learn how to interact with other kids and how to have a relationship with their peers. If their parents decide to home school their children, have to have in mind that their children don’t have many opportunity for forming friendship. If the parents don’t home school their children appropriately, in the future this can be prejudicial for their kids in many ways, such as, getting a job or maybe getting a couple.

 

            On more disadvantages is possible failure.  Home school can be very boring for kids if the parents don’t prepare a good program for teaching their children. Also, being at home every day can become the kids unrespecful with their parents in the way that they don’t want to do the homework that their parent assign because they thing they aren’t real teachers. Also this can become the kids lazy and in some cases anxiety. With these little problems the interest for the class in kids can go to the trash and the program that could be a success now can be a possible failure.

Hello people!!!  I don’t agree with home schooling because I think that the kids don’t learn as much as they could learn in a public school or private if they were interacting with other kids.

My three main ideas are:

 Limited social interaction,

Possible failure,

 Boring for kids.

Now is your turn to let me know if those are good points to discus in my essay. I will try to do my best. I know I can do it.

Curfew laws April 16, 2009

 

    

   Trying to prevent juvenile crime rate, the government has created the curfews laws. This law prohibits teenagers to be out of home at certain time at nights. This law varies from town to town. As we know, nowadays crime is very common. As a result, the teenagers aren’t safe enough for their parents don’t worry about them when they are on the streets. However, with this law, crime rates haven’t decreased, and teenagers are struggling with this law for many reasons and here are a few of them.

        One of the reasons is the difficulty to obey curfews laws.  For example, if a teenager comes from work, how the police are going to know that he or she is saying the true? Not all teenagers have a car; many of them have to walk to a bus stop to take the bus to go home and maybe he doesn’t work in the same town where he lives in. Maybe, in that town that he works in is too late for a teenager to be outside, but he has to because of his job. Another example is on weekends, everybody likes and have the right to hang out and that is not prohibit by any law. But, what about if a teenager is coming from a party from a friend’s house, or maybe from the movie theater? Should he be put under arrest for breaking the law? I don’t think so. That’s why this law is very difficult to obey.

        Another reason is the inefficiency. This law is not working as it should be working. Even without an adult, teenagers are on the streets late at night. Who wants to be in the house on summer at 10:00 pm when everybody is outside? A 16 years old child could get bored immediately with an adult. They prefer to be with someone with the same age or two or three years older. Also they like to be playing, walking to a friend’s house or maybe they just have an emergency and have to go somewhere for something important.  Even with or without this law, teenagers are going to be outside because they have the freedom to be wherever is possible they can be.

        Third reason is it inconsistency. In some town curfews laws start at 11:30pm to daybreak for 16 years old teenagers and in other town at 10:00pm to daybreak for 18 years old teens.  How the teens don’t know at what time the law stars in some towns, this should be the same time in the entire towns in order to prevent that a teen, that travel at night, can be fined. The difference of schedule in curfews hours affects the teenagers and keeps them isolated from many extracurricular activities such as, clubs, theatres, studies groups, sports games and many others.

        Opponents believe that with this law, crime rates and juvenile delinquency are going to decrease, and in this way their son are going to be safer from the things that happen on the streets. However, still nowadays, they are struggling with this kind of problems and crimes occurred even during non-curfews hours in many places. In order that crime and delinquency reduce a little bit more they should left open in the night basketball courts, swimming pools and many others sports facilities.

        In conclusion, this law has affected towns and communities across the country and their objective hasn’t been achieved. That’s why this law should be abolished because of it inefficiency and difficulty to be obey. Instead of this help with keeping teens safe from crime, affect them in other ways because it is prohibiting them from their freedom and it doesn’t let them to enjoy and share with other people. In the future I hope this law has been removed from cities all over the United States and let the teenagers to be free and not become this in racism.

 

I need a friend :( April 9, 2009

When I used to live in the Dominican Republic I had a lot of friends. They still are my friends. However, is not the same because I’m here and they are there. Today, my problem is that I need a friend, a real one. One which I can enjoy many things and hang out together.

My best friend lives in the Dominican Republic and her name is Jasmin. I would give what I don’t have for having her here. She is a very good person and she had showed me that she really is my best friend. She calls me a lot of time and sometimes she sends me messages. We also chat. However, my others friends never have called me, I have to call them. I’m not asking for call me every day because I know that call from there is very expensive, but just call me when they need something from me? I don’t think so!!!

I also have a good friend here, her name is Pilar, but I call her Pily. She is the only one that has been with me since I met her and we became friends. This is the only semester that we are not taking classes together because she didn’t pass some classes. Ahhh!!! I met her here, in PCCC.

Those are my two best friends, but I feel that I need another one I feel very alone. I can’t do the things I want to do with Pily or Jasmin because she is not here and Pily and me have different schedule life. Pily doesn’t work on weekends, but I do. She works every day from Mondays to Fridays and I’m off Thursdays. Maybe I have to look for another job, one that I can be off on weekends and in that way I can share with Pily instead of look for a new friend!!!. New friends are also welcome, but a really good one I don’t think so. Are you agree?  I say it because in this country the people are very selfish; I know why I say it.

My mother birthday April 7, 2009

April 17^th is my mother’s birthday and I don’t know what to gift her. I need you to help me with that. I ask you for help because you are my friends and I know that many of you like to help. As you know the mothers are the most special thing in the world.

 

Always I have problem with this because I would like to gift her the best. However, for me is not easy to find something that she doesn’t have already. She has a lot of things maybe for that reason I can’t find anything.

 

So, now I am going to give you a little job: to find the gift for my mother. Use your brain and let me know what I can gift her this year.

Today I am going to write about how to cook a Dominican plate:  its name is locrio of chicken.

Those are the ingredients:

1lib. Chicken.

1lib. Rice.

One red pepper (not too big)

One green pepper (not too big)

Two chicken bouillons (maggi)  

Salt, hot souse, vinegar, Chinese souse (soy souse)

Silantro, celery, onion, garlic, adobo (Goya all purpose seasoning)

 

This is what you have to do:

First of all wash the chicken with salt and hot water, then wash it again (don’t forget to cut the chicken in pieces).after that cut the ingredients in pieces and mix them with the chicken (not the rice). Put a bowl to heat, when it is hot, put a little oil and wait 2 or 3 minutes. Put the seasoning chicken in the bowl and let it cook for five or ten min. then put 2 cups  of water, taste and put it that you like how it tastes. When it is bowling put the rice (wash it first). When it is dry cover it with foil paper for 30 or until it is done.

Suggestion: enjoy it with a good salad and a glass of juice.

I Miss My Mother!!! March 9, 2009

One week ago, my mother went to the Dominican Republic and left my brother and me alone. The first days I was very sad because I miss her a lot. She is a very good mother and takes care of us very well. My brother and she have a grocery store in Passaic and she didn’t want to go to Dominican Republic because she didn’t want to leave my brother alone. However, she wanted to g o because she had two years without seeing her mother and brothers and she missed them a lot. I wanted to help my mother to go to see her mother.

 

Do you want to know what I did to help my mother? I took my vacations in my job in order that my mother could go to DR. I work at BJ’S. I have been working there for almost two years without any vacations. I’m tired, and I wanted to take my vacation for spring break in order I could rest and get up from my bed very late. However, I took it now to stay in the grocery store with my brother, and my mother could go happily to see her mother.

 

When she called us from there, I felt very happy hearing her happiness because she could hug her mother. Now, I have to spend eight hours with my brother in the grocery store. I spend a very good time with him because his very funny and like to hug and squeeze me too much. Sometime I get mad because I don’t like that Nobody stay squeezing me too much, but his my brother and I love him too much, that’s why I support it.

 

Even though I can’t rest, I know that I did the right because now, I feel what my mother felt when she had her mother far from here. I know that she is having a good time with her mother and I hope that she come back soon because I miss her a lot.  

If I want, I can do it! February 24, 2009

Last semester, I was taking ENR 107 with Professor Voronka. At first, I was not in reality.  I thought that it would be easy for me to do this class. However, after two weeks I realized that nothing was as easy as I thought. First of all, this was a reading class and I don’t like to read. When she left the homework, it was a whole chapter and reading it made me sleepy. At the other day, I didn’t know what I have read. When I went to the class, I was unprepared and with half of the homework. I had other classes and I arrived tired from work. But I know that it was not a reason for not doing the homework.

Later, after a few tests, I saw the true. I was doing really badly. I was thinking about dropping the class, but I didn’t want to do it. I wanted to finish the ESL as soon as possible. Thank God the teacher told me to go to her office if I needed help, and that was what I did. I explained her what was going on. That I had other classes and they left a lot of homework (by the way, one of the other class was ESLW, also with her) and that I had to clean my house and cook because my brother and my mother work until 10:00 pm. And then I had to go to work and when I arrived home I was tired. I told her that it was the reason why I did my homework at half. She understood me and helped me to do well.

At that time, she started to leave less homework, and she put me to do a summary of every chapter we were reading. Take out the most important and hand in it to her. I did it in that way. Doing the homework and thank her I started getting good grades on the tests and in class. Finally, I passed the course. With a “-B”, but I passed it. It wasn’t only her help; also I wanted to do it. Everybody do what they want to do. That’s why if I want. I can do it!
